L’ombre d’un autre défunt, José Thérèse, planait donc sur ce festival. Et si on fermait les yeux, on croirait l’entendre donner le ton aux musiciens qui animent désormais l’ensemble Mo’Zar, un projet fou mis en place pour sauver les enfants du ghetto de la misère et des fléaux sociaux.
Le Festival Kreol peut donc aussi fédérer autour d’anciennes gloires, tant musicale que poétique. Et les jeunes pousses, Blackwell et Kelly Ang Tin Hone, slammeurs d’un soir, peuvent espérer porter les souliers d’Edouard, dans un futur ciselé de fleurs de flamboyant.
Il ne manquait plus que Charles Baissac, même si son nom n’a toujours pas été prononcé, pour rappeler qu’il est celui qui a fait vivre les sirandanes dans des livres. Afin que ces « zedmo », ces jeux de mots qui ont séduit tant Malcolm de Chazal que Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio, prix Nobel de littérature. Mais il faudra bien se rappeler de l’existence d’un Baissac, pour exorciser les nuits vaudou qui ont enfanté séga, blues et jazz. Et les Kreol Jazz Pioneers et Philippe Thomas, désormais responsable de Mo’Zar peuvent faire appel au grand frère Louis Armstrong :
“I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and for you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world…”
Oui, le monde est beau quand il est créole. Et la créolité est belle quand elle se fait jazz. Les vagues applaudissaient ce surréalisme tropical. Comme une invite à la fraternité. Richard Duval, le ministre du Tourisme, sait de quoi il parle : »Nous avons donné de la visibilité aux artistes grâce au Festival Kreol. Fode pa nou ena fristrasion dan zorey. ».
Tendez l’oreille : la créolité est plus que jamais vivante. Elle vit dans un trou d’eau douce. Comme une source jamais tarie !
Edouard Maunick, the late world-famous Mauritian poet, was born in Flacq. Just a stone's throw from Trou d'Eau Douce. And the lover of words that he was knew more than anything that Creolité could also jazz.
And that even if this village in the east is a long way from New Orleans, the sea is always just a space to be explored. With boots of seven places and a slam of the tropics, we could marry the black notes of Louisiana with the tropical rhythm of the ravanne. The result is a marriage blessed by Mo'zar.
